Someone on the EV(Electric 'vehicle) list writes

I am now in the component selection phase of design of an ev.
Does anyone have, or know of a computer program for ev design? For
example:

The Lowest Common Denominator way to retrofit transportation is to build motors into the rims and switch wheels on existing vehicles. A fuel cell or Stirling Electric hybrid with batteries for regen is the propulsion for new or retrofit.

Plug in Hydrogen needs attention. Electrolysis or PEM reverse fuel cell to make Hydrogen from the exhaust water from the last trip. The batteries are precious metal compromised... Hydrogen just reverses the charges and produces a lower foot print solution to plugins...

EV Design Program - The ultimate vehicle

This is the question the world has been waiting for _ Organizing
the beat way to do something.

If we ask the question what is the "best way" to do something?
Only when we set the parameters around that pretext does the logical
exercise unfold. --Citizen Raleigh

In the late seventies we did some lectures in Los Angeles California
on the criteria for the ultimate vehicle. It was the results of our RA
ENERGY FDN. deliberations on transportation.


Our program started with the chassis and suspension design for a small
passenger car light truck combo. A quarter to half inch wall
square tube(preferably titanium) aprox. a foot square running the length of
the vehicle from which the suspension arms extended(like the legs of an
alligator) to the wheels which contain the drive motors. The suspension
arms, A frames or what ever are belcranked to air bags which provide the
lightest form of spring mechanism and allows variable load characteristics
that no other suspension can for the weight. This simple strategy will allow
one world standard chassis for cars and trucks up to two tons or so with
standard components thus creating the opportunity for the separate parts to
be made by thousands of small entrepreneurs world wide.

The lightweight eggshell composite car body you can speculate on ie. gullwing
doors to open like a boat, IC(Induction coupling) activated cloth draped over
your own sculpture etc..
The body takes no torque and is suspended on or around the super light
weight square tube which takes the torque and contains the go go goodies.
A truck can look the same as they always
have except that they steer by articulation ie. bend like an earth mover
instead of turning the wheels at the end of an axle. Based on Clone of Earth KISStech ie. the spine of the alligator takes the
tweak and the muscle-tendon systems give you the belcranks etc.
the rest is ?. The rear wheel of some racing bikes have a similar
belcrank suspension system.

The ultimate steering system is center pivot with essentially one
moving part which eliminates the multiple bushings, bearings, drag links, tie
rods, along with their maintenance and alignment problems. Power assist
comes from increasing the rpm of the outboard wheel motor and decreasing
the inboard with the electronic switcher controller for differential control.
The optical control monitoring coupled to field switching corrects in nanoseconds.

The same system found in wheel balancing programs and ABS brakes, can keep

the wheels balanced at every revolution.


In those days we were talking batteries and a pony generator hybrid
and a fuel cell wanabe. It is obvious now with the ceramic fuel cells and PEM fuel cells that the
way to go is a-Hydrogen fuel cell  or Stirling free piston with a helically wound titanium
ambient temperature pressure Hydrogen tank _ Nanotubes on the way. This tank as well as
the ceramic fuel cell went to the moon and back while you watched on television
ie. your tax dollars at work and part of the Mike Mulligan's space
shuttle in the basement, the living-space program.

A cottage industry can evolve around these make a hybrid from your own vehicle technologies.

With a Stirling gen set we can use any fuel allowing vehicles to be converted right away.

 

Electric motors are more efficient and will raise the mileage of whatever fuel, battery, fuel cell is is used.

 Fueling and charging is by Natural gas-Hydrogen (H85 Town gas) or
plug it in and electrolyze the water saved from the last trip and
pressurize the tank. In other words each vehicle has it's own
hydrogen generator that can turn it's exhaust water back into
Hydrogen by plugging it in like you would any electric vehicle
to charge the batteries.

 

The Stirling generator does not need a reformer

when using the dirty Hydrogen and town Gas, heat from a wood stove, or Solar heat.

The units can multitask as generators refrigeration units and mechanical power.


The motor in the wheels is a way of you tinkers starting the
greatest innovation in transportation since the water buffalo.
Again the best way to do it synergy (as well as a
new cottage industry )is to design the rim, airless tire, and
motor as a bolt on unit. The rim and tire is one half which bolts
to the hub and the backing plate gets the other half ie. the
brakes are regen. This retrofits and serves as the standard for
new vehicles ie. all the trains run on the same world standard.
When we decide that we can create transportation for ourselves
and not just for profit, we should decide on a world standard
and everybody manufactures the same components. It will
work like the concrete block ie. same block dimensions
everywhere.

 

Latest wheel motor from Australia. Earth movers (Latourneau) ,

Mining equipment and locomotives(most makes) are the proving

ground for the motor in the wheel  . The Japanese already

have the motor in the wheel combination car prototype and

working on the controllers but it is battery driven.

 The Billings group have a plug in concept of charge the fuel cell car

(electrolysis of the exhaust water to create Hydrogen) but

a conventional electric conversion motor through
the drive train. The Hum-vee and some race cars are close on
the suspension but aren't striving for the one vehicle does all
variable load characteristics of airbags. So what is wrong with
this movie.


We need to get out of the horse and buggy little boxes and
"graduate". Synergistics my man synergistics it's right up there with
aggregates and plastic youknowwhatimeanvern. Let bottom's gang

do it ie. tinkers tailors etc. and you.


So if we put that in our Funk and Wagnals or
computer simulation or what ever, we would be writing the book on
four wheel drive literally. And Don would have the twenty first century
transport bible and some share ware for kickstarting a dead planet..

NOTE: Since this was presented to the EV list, Renault of France
has come out with a hybrid wheel motor pony generator unit. But the real
market is the retrofit of the existing transportation fleet. Why not get the
world standard and cottage industry exercise going for this billions of
unit market. Fuel cells, tanks, and wheel motors to be ordered and
installed by the user rather than allow another general motors style
frankencorp to evolve around the electric car.

In other words why not produce what you can and offer it on the
net. By simplifying and eliminating three thousand moving parts we have a
shot at it. Eventually people can get the car as a kit with the
components made by small entrepreneurs like you etc. and assemble it
themselves or get some high school kids to do it etc. Remember it was
Renault that started this idea with the 2 CV and we called it the ugly duck
which made it a million seller.

EARTH MOVER ELECTRIC MOTOR IN THE WHEEL gif from

to show how the dirt and moisture as well as regen and disc brakes was
done over sixty years ago.

A simpler cottage industry version without the planetary gear
reductions would be built into the rim to convert existing vehicles.
Picture a ceiling fan motor with a ten to twenty inch diameter with
two to three sets of windings to create high torque as well as speed.
Then switch the fields and vary the currant for differential action,
variable regen braking, power steering and continuous wheel balancing.

A cottage industry version is two
discs facing each other holding bobbins wound with lacquered wire ie.
yes wound on sewing machines. The concentric rows of one inch
by two to three inches deep square bobbins with slightly concave
convex sides pressed into them and epoxied are offset so they will
fit between each other at close tolerance. This creates the switched
and variable fields and armature segments.

The photo diode reads the frequency of the passing fields(bobbins) in
relation to the strobe frequency(accelerator pedal-button) which represents the
desired speed. The controller feeds the appropriate juice to the
proper concentric rows and portions of the field or armature for
continuous wheel balance and RPM (traction control). ie. matching the strobe
frequency with the passing fields works like a modulating governor.

The data sensitive switching
can be at the end of each field or segment, induction pickup and frequency
sensitive for fly by wireless. The strobe and diode reader is from a wheel
balancing machine, the torque and rpm control circuit is from a VCR,
the frequency sensitive induction pickup is history(The museum of
ancient machinery :) .
